What do I need to consider in terms of licensing using an IBM program in backup mode?
First, you should be aware of under which License Agreement your IBM product has been licensed. If your product is licensed under the International Passport Advantage Agreement(IPLA) or the IBM Customer Agreement(ICA), the following applies. IBM grants you the following actions concerning the use for a copy for backup purposes:
Cold standby:
a copy of the program may be stored for backup purposes on a machine as long as the program has not been started. There is no additional license necessary.
Warm standby:
a copy of the program may reside for backup purposes on a machine and is started, but is “idling”, and is not doing any work of any kind. There, no additional license is required.
Hot standby:
a copy of the program may reside for Backup purposes on a machine, is started and is doing work. However, this program must be ordered. An additional license is required.
