How to license the access of an external user to a Microsoft Project Server?
Licensing access to a Microsoft Project Server depends on the version of the software. Up to and including version 2007, an External Connector license was available that you had to assign to the appropriate server. With this assigned external connector license, any number of external users could access the server. This Project External Connector license is no longer available.
For the subsequent Project Server versions, there are two ways to license external access:
- You provide your employees/external users with a Project Professional license. However, this contains only one Project Server Device CAL; for the access the device is being licensed, not the user
- You provide your employees/external users with a Windows Server Device or User CAL; here, you decide for yourself what type of access licensing you want to use
